Inktober 2018

A mash-up between Jake Parker's official prompts and the ones put out by Book Riot.  Featuring cute cartoon critters.
poisonous, title

tranquil, fantasy

roasted, villian

spell, current read

chicken, suspense
The prompts for this were supposed to be chicken and suspense. But I couldn't imagine a way to combine those two.  I thought about having a chicken wearing suspenders.  But finally settled on a chicken crossing a suspension bridge.

Actually, it was going to be a series of chickens crossing the bridge.  But they would have gotten pretty small pretty quick.  And I didn't feel like spending a half hour filling the bridge with bobbing little heads.

drooling, magical object
I gotta switch to dogs for this one.  Cause cats, well they don't really drool all that much.  And, thinking back, the droolingest dog I've ever known was my brother's bullmastiff Chloe.  Who here gets a magic 8 ball.

exhausted, childhood read

star, brave
This one was a bit of a cheat, since I was using someone else's imagination.  But, in amelioration, I did do it from memory.  And brave is a bit of a stretch.  The image is from when the sneeches finally give up their prejudices. It isn't a courageous action by that time.  But it is one that warrants a 'Bravo!'.

 precious, science fiction
flowing, spell

Today's prompts are the flip side of last Thursday's, for spell and current read. I thought about this one for a bit, and then decided to switch from books to movies, and did a scene for overflowing, with my 20 year-old cast in the role of the Sorcerer, and my 9 year-old as his Apprentice.

cruel, journey
The chase scene from 101 Dalmatians, with Cruella de Vil played by a longhaired calico.

whale, diverse
This was a hard one.  I first considered doing a tableau with lots of species of whales, but couldn't figure out how to make a whale cute.  Except for a beluga.  A rainbow convention of belugas?  Then I remembered the movie Whale Rider, and Paikea.  And replicated the ride, with a right whale, as cute as I could make it, and a Portuguese water dog for the rider.

guarded, horror
A terrified puppy, desperately guarding his toy from an evil cat.

clock, hero(ine)
Back to books.  Tock the Watch-Dog from The Phantom Tollbooth, rescuing Rhyme and Reason (and Milo and the Humbug) from the Castle in the Air.

weak, weird

angular, dramatic

swollen, mythology
This one was a stretch.  But apparently Oedipus means 'swollen foot'.  So I portrayed him as a Greek mastiff with a sprained ankle, being accosted by a sphinx with the head of a cat.  (Which pretty much turns her into a winged cat.)

bottle, humor
The best I could come up with was a tipsy tabby.

scorched, mysterious
The only thing that came to mind for this one was the parody lyrics to We Three Kings.  And once it wormed its way into my head, I couldn't get it out.

breakable, hoard

drain, romance
So, I changed the prompt to drained, and made it similar to exhausted on day 7.  Only, instead of a dog, the exhausted critters are cats, a boy and a girl, which will have to do for the romance part.

expensive, supernatural
I decided on a sphinx cat for both expensive and supernatural.  Because it's an expensive breed, and named for a supernatural being.  And looks unworldly to boot.

muddy, portal

chop, fairy tale
prickly, classic

The classic version of Sonic the Hedgehog, from 25 years ago.

stretch, escape

thunder, sidekick
Thor is played by a double doodle, and Lady Sif by a Siamese.  (According to wikipedia, Sif wasn't Thor's buddy, but his wife.  And she was blonde.  But Marvel decided early on to make her a brunette.)

gift, beast

double, dystopian
A duo of double doodle Handmaids.

jolt, magic
Google wasn't coming up with anything that inspired me, so I let Aramis reprise his role of the Sorcerer.

slice, ending
