Portland Art Museum

Mary couldn't make it today, but sent an assignment by way of Linda - to do a selfie, using bits of art for the bits of our faces or bodies.  Sure, ya betcha.

I didn't get far before I stopped, caught by the ikebana tucked into a corner of the tea house set up in the Japanese exhibit.  I did it twice, once in (virtual) ink, and then again in (virtual) paint.

And then did do the assignment, after finding a face on a serving vat in the Native American section.  I shifted the features a wee bit, to make them look more like me, and then added hair.

And then, on my way out of the restroom, found the shiny metallic sculpture in the basement.  And a spot on it where I could see multiple mini-mes.

Amaryllis, again

The stalks have been lengthening, but not much else has been happening. But this morning I noticed that one of the buds is starting to unfurl.

Tea

Auditioning a new tea shop, because the one I normally go to is on the other side of the rebuilding of Thurman.  Only, it's really a coffee shop, that does tea as well.  But not very well.

Seattle Public Library

I'd gone to Seattle for a concert, and delayed my return so that I could also attend a sketchcrawl there, at the downtown library.  While most people stayed inside the library to sketch either the interior or the views of the city through those diamond-shaped windows, I retreated to a coffee shop across the street, and worked on the view outside the window, tackling the strange perspective of the exterior of the library.

Sketchcrawl in Beaverton

We trekked out to Beaverton today, to sketch at a new food-cart pod there.

I found a dry place to sit in the center of the court and did a sketch of the carts in the opposite corner, with the city hall looming behind them.

By the time I'd finished that I was chilled, so I retreated to a heated porch, sitting behind a line of sketchers perched on bar stools.

And one bonus sketch, of one of the stuffed animals in the Christmas display at Union Station.

Play

Specifically, a member of the audience sitting down to write out one of his winter memories before the show.

Party

A Chick-Tech party, filled with girls of all ages and fancy technology for them to play with.  This girl was getting an introduction to virtual reality, but the goggles were too big for her, and she had to hang on to keep them from sliding off.

Figgy Pudding

Just the one quick sketch, because I looked at my phone after this one and realized that I'd have to hustle if I was going to hear all the choirs.  I got most of them, but the event ended before I made it all the way around the course.

Amaryllis

From Trader Joe's.  The convenience food of plants, with the bulb encased in wax.  No fuss, no muss, no pot, no water, no bother.

Persimmons

This year's harvest.

There had been more.  But two fell off when they were small and green.  The crows got two more, pecking into them and hollowing the pulp out of them.  There was a strange double-lobed one, and some lady picked that and walked off with it.  And there was one damaged one that I salvaged a little while ago.

The two on the right were still firm.  The one on the left was soft and ready to burst at the seams.  This afternoon I scooped it out and used it to make rice pudding.

At the bloodmobile

This was a newer bus, with loungers instead of flat beds, and more room in the aisle for the phlebotomists to maneuver.

The vein in my left arm was judged to be a good one for drawing from, which left my right hand free.  I did a quick sketch of the phlebotomist at the other end of the bus while mine was setting up.

And then did my own left hand, remembering to pump every once and a while.  I knew it was going to have to be a quickie, but I surprised myself at how quickly I filled the bag.  My phlebotomist would have been happy to let me stay and finish, but they needed the bed.  So I added the shading while sitting in the canteen with juice and crackers.

Portland Art Museum

A bunch of new exhibits had opened since the last time I was here, so I ran around at first, trying to get a glimpse of them all.  And then figured that I'd better sit down and sketch something, and did the tea house set up in the entrance of the exhibit of Japanese art and calligraphy.
Then upstairs, to see the exhibit on modern realism.  And decided that 'realism' is a relative word.  All of the works were representative, but none of them pretended to be photo-realistic.  I just had time for a quickie of one of the sculptures before meeting for the throw-down.

Japanese Garden

A dry Saturday in November.  There'd been fog in the morning, but it had burned off by the time I got to the garden.  So I didn't get to do any atmospheric sketches.

Sketchcrawl at Portland Nursery

We scheduled our November sketchcrawl at the Portland Nursery on Division because they have a heated greenhouse there.  And we wanted a warm, dry refuge from the winter weather.

Well, this winter day was sunny and mild, if a bit windy.

I had to leave early, but I managed a couple of sketches, one of a statue inside the shade pavilion, and another of a jumble of pots stacked outside.

(While I was working on this one, a man wandered by and told me that I was cheating, because I was using a tablet.)

Inktober day 30 - jolt, magic

Google wasn't coming up with anything that inspired me, so I let Aramis reprise his role of the Sorcerer.

Inktober day 27, thunder, sidekick

Thor is played by a double doodle, and Lady Sif by a Siamese.  (According to wikipedia, sif wasn't Thor's buddy, but his wife.  And she was blonde.  But Marvel decided early on to make her a brunette.)

Inktober day 22 - expensive, supernatural

I decided on a sphinx cat for both expensive and supernatural.  Because it's an expensive breed, and named for a supernatural being.  And looks unworldly to boot.

Inktober day 21 - drain, romance

So, I changed the prompt to drained, and made it similar to exhausted on day 7.  Only, instead of a dog, the exhausted critters are cats, a boy and a girl, which will have to do for the romance part.
