St James, Seattle

Cold and gray, with a gorge wind, in Portland. Sun over the Olympics, but clouds stuck on the Cascades, decapitating Rainier.

Portlland bus mall

Mostly clear. The sun rose low and far to the south.

At lunchtime I headed up to PSU for a lecture, but cut it a bit too fine. Luckily I was able to hop onto a streetcar and get there just a bit after it started. Only to find that the room was full.

But it was sunny outside, so I stopped to sketch some of the sculptures on the bus mall, then walked back to work.

Willamette

Clear and cold in the morning, with a sunrise! Raining again in the afternoon.

After breakfast  I got dressed and went for a walk. My excuse was to see how well I could manage the phone's touchscreen in near-freezing weather. Unfortunately, by the time I'd gotten the last layer on the sun was fading.

Walked down to the river, circling back by way of Northrup. Caught a streetcar to Good Sam and then walked home. By the time I got back the ridge was fading into the mist.

Portland waterfront, evening

Dry, except for some drizzles in the evening. And mild. Actually quite nice for a day in late October. But so much grayer than yesterday that it's clear that summer is finally over.

Oregon City

A gorgeous day, 70 and sunny.

Clear. Cold in the morning, but toasty in the afternoon, and continued warm into the evening.

MacCleay Park

Cool. Cloudy and drizzly in the morning, with sun breaks in the afternoon.

Took a walk in the woods, carrying only my phone, a pair of reading glasses and a house key.

My own yard

Cloudy and cool all morning, turning suddenly sunny and warm in the afternoon.

Vancouver

Cloudy and cool all day. Despite being promised sunny and warm.

Portland bus mall.

Old Apple Tree Park, Vancouver WA, squeezed in between a busy railroad line and a busier highway.

From my own garden

Cool early in the morning, turn sunny and warm early. Plenty warm by the afternoon, but cooling off quickly when the sun went behind the ridge. At 6pm.

Bus Mall

Cloudy in the morning, but clearing, and turning warm by afternoon. Breezy and mild in the evening.

At lunch time I walked up to PSU and bought a chicken curry (maybe just a tad too hot), then took a walk, caught a 17 back to work, and took another short walk, as it was so nice.

Forest Grove

Clouds and sun.

Wandered around for a bit, exploring the shady campus, with classes being held out on the lawn, and then the short old downtown to the west of campus, before finding a bus stop for the return trip.

Lloyd Center, NW Bus Mall

Turning sunny. Muggy, and unseasonably warm.

Caught a 77 across the river. Got off at the Lloyd Center, bought a rice bowl at the Safeway deli, and then wandered up Broadway and back down on Weidler, stopping in at Lloyd Center to use the restroom, and then catching a green MAX back across the river.

NW Portland - first of fall colors

Mild, but cloudy, with morning showers.

Woke early, to the sound of rain.

Mount Tabor

Sunny and warm.

Set out, walking down Thurman and stopping at the library to catch a 15 across the river to Mt Tabor. I had intended to get off at the top of the hill, but mistook the slope and got off early and had to walk up to the park. Stopped and did some sketching, then got out my map to look at the trail system. And found that nobody has bothered to input Mt Tabor's trails into open street map. Nor its restrooms either. I wandered about in a rough circle, ending up at the peak (and finding a porta-potty there) and then down the other side and into the caldera. From there I worked my way back down into the street grid and caught a 15 home.

Downtown Portland Riverfront

Cloudy and cool in the morning. Turning partly sunny and pleasant by afternoon.

Stayed a bit late at work, then took a leisurely stroll to City Hall, going by way of the riverfront and stopping to sketch from time to time.

Doodle

Warm. Sunny early, sprinkling by noon, raining by mid-afternoon.

Headed for towards the Hollywood Freddy's, but found a QFC on the way. Bought what I'd need for soup and found the nearest bus stop. Couldn't find a hotspot to check the bus times, so merely sat and doodled until the next 77 arrived.

My first smart phone.
Already nearly obsolete by the time I got it.  And dinky, with a 3.7 inch screen and a resolution of only 480×800 pixels.  But I love it.
