Sketching in a grid

Today's urban sketching challenge.  Vignettes from Aramis' grave.

I ended up not using the musketeer cartoon as a grid, when I decided that it was too ornate.  But I did use a stylized cat head for a grid instead.

Aramis

A cartoon of Aramis as a musketeer.

I made it in advance, to be used in this month's USk challenge, of sketching in a grid.

Aramis

My sweets, my joy!  A most extraordinary cat.   Not the smartest cat I've known, but easily the most fun.  A friend to kids and dogs.  Actually, he had more friends than I do.

When I decided to turn all of the critters into indoor only cats, he learned to walk on a lead so we could go for walks together.  And then we'd go out without the lead, just hanging out in the yard, or going for short jaunts up the street.  Just a couple of weeks ago he was well and agile enough to walk to the end of the block and back.

He's lived with me for more than 21 years, outliving some of his younger siblings, so I can't hardly complain.

Virtual art meet-up

Mary tried a virtual meet-up today, to replace our normal meeting at the art museum, which is closed.

Today's challenge came from a quarantine art club on instagram.  It was to pick something mundane, something extraordinary, and some garb and mash them together.  So I did Aramis, with a lion's tail, and a surgical mask.

That took all of ten minutes, so I went looking for something else to draw.  And saw Ollie sitting up on the hill in the backyard.  She kept moving though, and eventually saw me through the window and ran down to ask for love.

And then I sneaked out the back door to see if I could snag one of Barbara's fallen red camellia blossoms to bring inside.  No, her front yard was still filled with men and ladders.  But I noticed a broken branch on one of my camellia's (Did it come that way, or was it hit by a flying shingle?) and brought that in instead.

Aramis

According to the vet, Aramis was born on January 1, 1998.  Now that was a guess that is guaranteed to be wrong, since kittens don't get born in the middle of winter.  But it's not far off.  He was definitely a young adult when I met in in the summer of 1999.

Inktober day 30 - jolt, magic

Google wasn't coming up with anything that inspired me, so I let Aramis reprise his role of the Sorcerer.

Inktober day 13 - guarded, horror

A terrified puppy, desperately guarding his toy from an evil cat.

Inktober day 10 - flowing, spell

Today's prompts are the flip side of last Thursday's, for spell and current read. I thought about this one for a bit, and then decided to switch from books to movies, and did a scene for overflowing, with my 20 year-old cast in the role of the Sorcerer, and my 9 year-old as his Apprentice.

#inktober #29 - united

The black one is Aramis.  He came to me in 1998, as a young and totally clueless tom.  The gray one is Pippin.  She somehow lost her mom in 2009, when she was about 8 weeks old.  Aramis found her and brought her home, and they've been a bonded pair ever since.

Aramis

Sleeping on my lap, keeping me from getting up.
