Rodin at Portland Art Museum
This month's assignment was to explore negative space. So I did this one:
Then I flipped it around and, starting with just the outline, tried to add gray and black and white to bring out the three-dimensional form.
Returned to dealing with only negative space on my last sketch.

Trees
When I got the removal permit for my ailing catalpa, I had plans. To do a farewell sketch of it, and then to sketch the workers when they came to take it down.
Instead, I got this:
That's just the main trunk, after PGE chopped up the rest of it so they could get the power lines back up again.
And on the other side of the house, the people who lifted the branches off my garage and Karen's deck deemed that the ice had melted enough that they could bring in the chipper and remove the brush.

Weekend in Seattle
The mini-concert before the Early Music Guild's main event - Early Music Underground. (They usually play in bars, rather than concert halls.)
And then, the next morning, King Street Station from the common room of the hostel.
And from inside King Street Station, the big chandelier over the entrance.

After Christmas
I'd gone downtown in the morning to turn in an application for removing a street tree. As I was walking past Pioneer Courthouse Square on my way back I noticed that they had started dismantling the tree. So I stopped to do one last sketch of it before it goes away. A very quick one, as I hadn't brought the right gloves for sketching out of doors.

Then on to the hostel, where I was to lead a hike up into Washington Park, getting there in time for another sketch in their lobby while people gathered.
