Latin class

This during a discussion of macrons, and do we really have to memorize them.

Hollywood Library

Classics book group.  I'd carried the tablet there so I could read the book that I'd put on it on the bus home.  But it also allowed me to sneak some sketching in too.

PSU Farmers Market

Sketchcrawl at the farmers' market.  I found a bench to sit on and sketched a row of vendors' booths.

And then turned to quick sketches of individual people.

And then did one more while walking home along the Ho Chi Ming Trail.

PLUG meeting

That's the Portland Linux/Unix Group

I tried Infinite Painter again, and am still not liking it.  The preview for the brush strokes is difficult to see, and completely lies about the size of the stroke.  You actually have to paint a stroke to see how big it's going to be.  The final straw was when it irrevocably lost a big chunk of one drawing.  At that point I gave up and switched back to my old standby of Sketchbook Mobile.

NW Portland

Mostly sunny and pleasant.

Walked into NW to sketch the fountain that's being stored in the parking lot next to St Patrick's.

South Waterfront

Sunny, growing hot.

I wandered up and down the waterfront, doing four different sketches, each with a different app.  Found that my new stylus doesn't work well in artflow if fake pressure is turned on, as the perceived pressure is too negligible to register.

Got to the World Trade Center earlier than needed, having time to do a quick sketch of Mt Hood after I bought a ticket.

Cathedral Park

I tried my newly installed (after a heroic effort) artflow app. It has orientation issues. It gets horribly confused if you try to start a sketch in portrait mode. And if you create a canvas in landscape mode and then switch to portrait the screen starts flipping around like a dying fish in the bottom of the boat.

Incense at Trinity Cathedral

Sunny, growing hot.

Walked to Trinity for their Taize service.

OSCON party

Cool in the morning. Turning pleasant by afternoon.

The theme of the party was The Elements.  The ballroom was divided into four parts, representing Air - with bungie-trampoline rigs that people could try out, a bubble machine, (not very comfortable) inflatable armchairs, and pop corn and cotton candy for all who could stomach them; Earth - with rock climbing, pet rocks to decorate, an earthquake simulator, and a potato bar; Water - a couple of dancers inside giant clear beach balls floating in a pool (I think that they were supposed to be ballerinas.  But they couldn't do much more than strike poses.), two seahorses on stilts, and sushi; and Fire - a couple of fire dancers, and phad thai.  Oh, yeah, and beer and wine and mixed drinks, Italian sodas, pop and water.  And, as I found just as I was leaving, ice cream bars.
